WHAT is STEMfest?

Club Luminous presents STEMfest, a free day-long program for students in grades 5-8 to explore the sciences through exciting experiments and activities. STEMfest aims to bring students the unforgettable experience of learning more about the science involved in everyday life in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Computer Science. Participants will work in small groups of 5 or 6 under the coaching and guidance of high-school students with a strong background in STEM. Students will participate in three 45-minute long activities or experiments, each pertaining to a specific field of science/technology. Throughout the day, we will also hold ‘Build Competitions’, a way for students to enhance their communication and teamwork skills, as well as their ability to work under constraints similar to those faced by engineers. Lunch will be provided! Register now by clicking the Student Registration button above!

WHEN and WHERE is STEMfest?

STEMfest will be held at Ideaventions Academy for Mathematics and Science: 12340 Pinecrest Road, Reston, Virginia 20191. The event will start at 10:00 AM and end at 5:00 PM.

WHO is organizing STEMfest?

Club Luminous and Ideaventions Academy are hosting STEMfest. Club Luminous is a community organization that promotes STEM-outreach in the local communities of high schools. Ideaventions Academy is a private STEM-oriented academy that aims to develop an appreciation for STEM in a new generation of students.

WHY should you volunteer at STEMfest?

If you are a high school student who has an interest in STEM and/or enjoys teaching younger students, we would love to have you on board with us for STEMfest! There are two possible shifts: 9:00 to 1:30 or 1:15 to 5:30. If you can stay all day, that’s even better! You will be in charge of one of eight activities for the duration of your shift; you will be conducting the experiment and teaching the science behind it up to three times, depending on which time frame you will be volunteering. In addition, you’ll get a chance to watch middle schoolers compete in various engineering competitions and acquire quite a few volunteer hours along the way. We will also have a pizza lunch for those who volunteer for the first shift or all day. There will be plenty of snacks available throughout the day as well! Click the button at the top of the page to register as a volunteer. We hope to see you there!
